I Can’t Afford It

On the journey of this Christian life, there are two things I can’t afford. They’re too expensive.

Definition of expensive: entailing great expense; very high-priced; costly.

Pride and fear are two things that are too expensive for me. I can’t take them along with me on this journey. They would cost me too much.

What they would cost me is living and doing God’s will. Pride and fear would keep me from living and doing God’s will, in one way or another, and that’s a cost I can’t afford. Pride and fear must be left behind on this journey. I can’t afford to take them with me.

Be aware of whether pride or fear is trying to influence you in any way and remember they are unaffordable in this Christian life. Perhaps for someone who isn’t a Christian, pride and fear would be affordable. A little pride here, a little fear there, would be affordable. But for the Christian whose utmost goal is God’s will, they are unaffordable.

There are many Bible verses that steer us away from pride and fear. Here are a couple:

Haughty eyes and a proud heart – the guides of the wicked – are sin. (Proverbs 21:4 BSB)

The fear of man brings a snare, but whoever trusts in the LORD shall be safe. (Proverbs 29:25 NKJV)
