The Wonder of It All

Picture this: The star-studded night sky, but covering the globe of the earth. Instead of the typical globe that shows the map of countries and continents, imagine the globe black with stars on it. Like the night sky covering a globe. That’s how God sees His saints in the dark world. “Oh, look at that!” we might say as we gaze into the heavens at night, taking in the awe and beauty of it. But God gazes at the beauty of His saints upon the earth.

Consider the similarities between us in this dark world, and the stars against the night sky.

When I look up into the night skies and see the work of your fingers – the moon and the stars you have made – I cannot understand how you can bother with mere puny man, to pay any attention to him! And yet you have made him only a little lower than the angels, and placed a crown of glory and honor upon his head. (Psalms 8:3-5 TLB)

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for God’s own possession, to proclaim the virtues of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9 BSB)

[David] As for the saints who are on the earth, “They are the excellent ones, in whom is all my delight.” (Psalm 16:3 NKJV)

For the choirmaster. As psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. (Psalm 19:1 BSB)

Look up into the heavens. Who created all the stars? He brings them out like an army, one after another, calling each by its name. Because of his great power and incomparable strength, not a single one is missing. (Isaiah 40:26 NLT)

… And He made the stars as well. God set these lights in the expanse of the sky to shine upon the earth … (Genesis 1:16-17 BSB)

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16 ESV)

Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever. (Daniel 12:3 NIV)
